I Wonder Why…or Do I Already Know….

December 26, 2009 by urbansports33

According to reports from various news outlets there’s been a rise in DUI arrest on Xmas eve this year. 71 arrest have been made which doubled in number from last year. Is it just me, doesn’t it seem like any minority celebrity or name in the news usually is brought to the attention of the public. If I didn’t read the back pages of the LA Times I wouldn’t of known that Charlie Sheen was arrested in Colorado for a domestic dispute. Did any of this information appear on the local news? I didn’t here it. I also didn’t know that Charlie Sheen’s real name is “Carlos Estevez”. I though Charles was the son of Famous actor Martin Sheen. Is there something I’m missing here? Is there a cover-up here? Why did this newspaper casualy drop a bombshell. That’s just food for thought but not the topic of this post.

Generally the media in general describe victims or suspects of a given story by race. For example, 5 African American men robbed a bank in Norco last night or 3 hispanic men are thought to be responsible for the kidnaping of a 3 year old toddler, etc…

Knowing this it’s not that hard to understand the events of a 19 year old girl in Stanton, CA. Notice I said 19 year old. Because that’s all of the information that was provided in the article. There was name offered and details where limited, I wonder why.

Here’s the situation, Orange County police authorities are keeping an eye out for a patient who checked herself into a hospital for injuries that authorities believe are consistent with child birth. The Patient was questioned she denied just giving birth to a new born child. After further investigation authorities where able to piece together what happened. Aparently, this young lady had a meal at a restaurant, in the bathroom of this restaurant is where it’s believed the young woman gave birth to a child. The lifeless body of a newborn child was found in a near by trash can. What a tragic story especially when there are laws that say if any infant child is droped off at a hospital or fire dept. There is no punishment given to the perpatrater. Now this young women will be going to jail for a long time, but that’s not my point.

My point is why wasn’t this young women name released, why wasn’t she defined by race. In my opinion, the county she was arrested in has a lot to do with it, ORANGE COUNTY. I’m willing to bet money, and I’m not a gambler, that the suspect in this case is a white women. The energy of the story I read was cover-up-ish. I also wonder if this story cover thru it’s duration. I want to see if this women gets a slap on the risk. If this was a minority suspect we would know her name we would have a dark shaded picture to look at and the overall tone of the article would be more negative or menacing unlike the articles appear now.

My problem with this type of reporting is obvious. It burns me up which is why I’m writing about it. If I where rich I’d buy a newspaper or magazine and I’d instruct my journalist to report each story acurately void of any prejudice. I would also have a dept. Designed to comment on very touchy subjects from a minority point of view. We as black people need a stage and outlet to express ourselves and to get our opinions out to the public otherwise our point of view is silent. With this blog I won’t let this happen. Instead of believing any story you read in a newspaper or hear on a newscast before you form your opinion first. Research the issue so you’ll trully be I formed on the subject as apposed to recieving one point of view.

DON’T ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE BRAINWASHED!!!

Until next time, stay warm, think positive, and never give up…

Crenshaw Cougars

December 15, 2009 by urbansports33

Saturday December 19th is a big day for Southern California. This date represents the first time in history an inner-city high school footbal team has ben picked or chosen to play in the State Championship game. This game means a lot to me personally, for the people that know me they know that I’m a huge sports fan and since I’m in LA I’m a huge Lakers fan and proud of it. But I never played for the Lakers I played under Coach Robert Garrett, the current Coach at Crenshaw High School the 2009 Los Angeles City Football Champions. This Saturday will be a chance for the Engire State of California what “The Shaw”" is all about. Because my blood sweat and tears came on the very same field that this 2009 Varsity Championship version I obviously I feel a strong connection. This is a prideful event for the countless inner-city schools that have no chance to play on the big stage with big boys because of there location. Let’s face the inner-city schools have always had talent but rarely were they covered by the the media or scouted like suburban schools because there location, the ghetto. That’s why Saturday’s game is so important. Once Crenshaw flexes the collective muscle and destroy’s De La Salle thebcity will no longer be ignored. I can’t wait, I’m looking forward to everything watching both teams warm-up watching the Band’s play, looking at the cheerleaders, going to the snack bar, mingling with friends I haven’t seen in 19 years. This an exciting time for the city of Los Angeles and I hope Crenshaw is well represented at the Home Depoy Center because you know the opponent will be well spoken for by the numbers in attentance. Crenshaw is only a few miles away from the HDC, so this should really be home game for the Cougars. Crenshaw has always ben one the most recognized Basketball schools in this country. Hopefully with a win Saturday, all that will change. May the best team win.

GO CRENSHAW COUGARS GO…
BECOME THE FIRST INNER-CITY SCHOOL TO WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP…
IT’S TIME TO REWRITE HISTORY…
AND I’LL BE THERE…

Fanatic Alumnist…

December 12, 2009 by urbansports33

Why is it that when a schools in a particular sport or academic function have huge success or advances to the next round of a tournament, why the oldest fans in the crowd with old letter jackets on cheering louder than the students who attend the school. It’s beceause these older people used to attend that same school years earlier they are called fanatic alumni. People who takepride in the success of there former schools. Some of these people have no lives and some just really enjoy themselves. This goes on every where not just here in this country. Pride is something that happens when your former school is having success it makes you feel like your a part of it even if your not. Life is very strange you go through different stages and after you’ve been on earth long enough things tend to become more important to things that you didn’t pay attention to in the past. It is very important to have friends she family to have a support group so to speak as you travel through life. They can help you through problem or just be there for you as a shoulder to cry on. Alumnist think about these things much more than the current student seeing that they are on 2 sides of life young and old. It not bad to be an Alumnist it’s just bad when Alumnist live life in the past.

Until next time, Go Cougars my Former high school will be playing for the City Championship and if they win against Narbonne high school they have a chance at the state title at The Home Depot Center in Carson California. Go Cougars Go. Alway remember never give up…

Black Friday’s…

December 12, 2009 by urbansports33

Black Friday for those who don’t know is a day when a department store opens there doors at the wee hours of the morning to the public for a season ending sale, holiday sale, or just some sort of sale. These type of days have been somewhat successful over the years and dangerous. Due to the large turn-outs for these sales there have been a lot of tragedy as well. People have been so eager that when the doors finally open they rush in like a pack of Bulls destroying everything in it’s path. Unfortunately inthe process a lot of injuries have occurred and in some cases fatalities have become reality. I’m not against these Black Friday events I would just like to see a little bit more structure on behave of the stores holding the sales. When you wake up early to attend these thor of events I’m sure the thought never crosses your mind that because of the large turn-outs that you might not being coming home. In my humble opinion, there is no sale that important…

Until next time, be strong, stay dry and never give up…

The Big Spaniard…

December 12, 2009 by urbansports33

In Memphis where Pau Gasol played before becoming a Laker he was called by some Pau Gasoft. That’s because of his finness play. It also contributed both ways on how the Lakers got to the Finals that year to play Boston and it tell how they lost. Not just because of Pau but along with Pau.

There are still coaches, players and GM’s across the NBA who still are very bitter about this trade. At one point because of the success of the Lakers when Shaq left teams weren’t lining up to help the Lakers by making important trade offers or trades. After 3 seasons ended early in the playoffs and Kobe expressing his displeasure with not having the personel to compete, finally 4 months into the next season it took an ex-Laker to help the Lakers, Jerry West the then GM of the Memphis Grizzlies who traded Pau for his unknown little brother and a firstround draft pick. With a lot of strength conditioning mentally and phisically Pau and the Lakers won a Championship last year and are the defending World Champions and haven’t lost 3 games in a row since the arrival of the Big Spaniard. Need I say more.

Immoral Media

December 5, 2009 by urbansports33

When I was a kid I believed in the boogie-man, the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, Easter, and the Media just to name a few. My beliefs weren’t taught to me they were brainwashed to me. I’m sure I’m not the the only one that experienced this. To be honest if you’re not careful it could be a long time for some to understand this for what it is.

I can remember a debate I had years ago with my brother, I argued that there is such a thing as Santa Claus and he argued the opposite. The funny thing about this is at the time I really thought I was right. The only reason I thought this was true like many kids not taught the truth by there parents is because I was brainwashed and society in a whole was and is still in on this falsehood. For the most part if you don’t know any better the media can make you believe anything.

I’m a huge sports fan and for the past week the media has been running a below the belt type of story that makes me sick to it stomach. I’m sure by now that everyone knows that Tiger Woods had an accident. This is news worthy. The worlds most recognizible athlete possibly injured? After the first reports came out all help broke loose!!!

A week later this same story is being reported on but no longer is informitive reporting this more like propaganda reporting. I don’t listen to any of it, I’ll turn the station when the topic is broached.

Thevmedia has spent to much time on Tigers personal life. Thisvtype of brainwashing media I don’t except. If I were to broadcast all the bad transgressions of the very same reporters who’s harping the wrong way on this story I’m sure we’d find all kind of disgusting skeletons in there closet.

I don’t care about Tigers personal life. I don’t condone adultry but I also don’t condone meaningless hairdresser gossip.

I’ll make this short and sweet. This is not the fiery time an athlete or celebrity has had an affair the reason why this now old boring topic is still being dragged thru the mud is 1 word, RACE. Like everything else in this racism infested country. Tigers black his wife is white, that’s the whole thing in a nutshell, and to be as blunt as I can this whole thing is bullshit.

Rick Pitino paid for an abortion to a woman he had an affair with but very little is metioned. These action or from a man in a leadership role as the head coach of a major university. Also very little was metioned about the former white baseball player who used to play for the Yankee’s who broke the law.

The sports media focusses on the bad black athlete as if the only athletes with off the field issues are black. It’s just the black athletes issues are magnified were as the white athlete is rarely metioned.

If you think that I believe that the black athlete is only one that’s had brushes with the law then you can sell me a bridge in San francisco. Races media in this country make me sick to my stomach!!!!

Death, means Life

November 28, 2009 by urbansports33

I remember when Wilt Chamberlain died. The story ran in newspaperes across this country. The story ran on tv, and sports networks and that was that after a few days. That was the way it was.
That was then and this is now:

If 2 celebrities die, in this day and time as apposed to giving each deceaced celebrity there time in the sun for mourning, a popularity contest breaks out. Case and Point, Farah died during the same time Michael died. But it was if you you had 2 people from opposites sides of the tracks or like the priviledged vs poor. Americans where spoon fed and are still 4 months later being spoon fed Michael Jackson tidbits. I’ve never seen anything like this before in my life. It’s as if MJ’s death was a successful program and has network brass everywhere brainstorming the spinoffs before this topic goes dry.
Personally I’m tired of it, I’m tired of picking up a newspaper and seeking an article in the back of the paper talking about MJ or a small picture on the front page with some form of discription or a watching trailers of the upcoming MJ movie. It’s as if people didn’t know that the MJ biographical movie has allready been done years ago. That doesnt matter the public needs a newer version. This makes no since to me and as long as things continue to happen this way I will continue not to care or pay attention.

I can mourn all by my lonesome I don’t need media driven inspiration.

Until next time, choose your fiends wisely, sacrifice, and never give up.

A Fixture in TV is Calling it Quits…

November 20, 2009 by urbansports33

In the early 1980’s there were only a few talk shows on tv. Late night talk of course, People’s Court with Judge Wapner in the afternoon and the king of afternoon talk was Phil Donohue. Who new that a new show would emerge with a bang. The shocking part of it all, in this country were race means everything , Oprah Winfrey an intelligent heavyset African American woman with a strong personality started her reign in afternoon talk. Billions of dollars later the show host that started off with controvercial topics after controvercial topics is calling it quits.

Oprah started at the bottom and scratched her way to the top in a largely considered man’s profession. She became the roll model so to speak for women everywhere. Her viewership mostly was catered to woman but a lot of men tuned in as well. She became so big that when you were invited to the show, you’ve made it to the big time.

This society we live in today it woundn’t be a big shock to see a black woman with a tv talk show but in the 80’s it was a big deal and to see she lasted so long tells you even though we still have race problems in this country it shows you that we as a country are moving in the right direction. It obviously isn’t perfect but I can see movement. Look at the president in the 80’s Rev. Jesse Jackson ran for president and he had no chance of winning and over 20 years later, here we have Obama.

Oprah Winfrey has had a long run, but like they say what goes up must come down. The good thing about this ending is Oprah is doing it her own way as apposed to being kicked off the air due to low ratings.

Congradulations Oprah and now you can enjoy the rest of your life.

Until next time keep the faith and never give up. PEACE.

Washington a Hot Bed of Pressure

November 7, 2009 by urbansports33

November the 4th seems so long ago. I can recall that morning, a damp morning the aftermath of rain from the night before. I was a late bloomer as far as the elections went. I started paying attention right as the Democratic nominee was chosen, so i missed the build up, so to speak.I heard about it constantly from co-workers but my interest lied elsewhere, like, supporting my Lakers and their journey to win their 15th title. Which they eventually did. It turned out to be as we now know a good day for the BLUE states and a bad day for the RED states. Either way, President Obama won and hopefully this country won.

This country’s out of control Unemployment rates have skyrocketed to a little over 10% nationally and over 12% right here in California, according to the LA Times. Thus, leading the President to sign in to legislation among other things the extention of unemployment benefits, 14% in some areas and 20% in harder hit areas. I’m sure you can imagine the pressure the Obama administration is under right now with control of the house and the senate up for grabs in the upcoming 2010 elections. The Obama bashers are coming out of the wood work to express their displeasure.I want to see how all of this plays out, we’ll soon see.

Until next time buckle down, save your cash , and never give up…

A 15 year old Girl under Attack…

October 27, 2009 by urbansports33

You would think with all the law enforcement and school organizers of events that children would be safe bad elements. Just imagine being a father waiting for a school dance to end so you can pick up your daughter but when you get there she is no where to be seen. So I’m sure as any parent would think since it’s a school function I’ll wait a little while longer anticipating your daughters arrival. Time keeps passing and your child doesn’t appear so you go and look for her having no clue that what’s going on is going on. In this case the what’s going on went very wrong, and I mean very wrong. The ok d of wrong that has parents monitoring there children’s activity even more for their safety.

An article I read in the LA Times recently dipicted a horrific circumstance at Richmond High School recently. After a school dance a 15 year old school girl waited outside for her dad go pick her up. Minutes later the story alleged the girl was confronted and wisked away to a dark area on the other side of the school where she beaten and repeatedly raped. This event was was viewed by onlookers but no one called the police. Unfortunately for the young girl this episode lasted over an hour and no one anitially tried to help. Finally the authorities where notified by some girls who overheard someone talking about it and the police arrived while this crime was being committed. Most of the perpetrators scattered when the police arrived one teenager was arrested and another was arrested at a later date. All this was going on while the dad was searching for his daughter. I can’t imagine how he feels.

I feel so sorry for the young girl in her family and I hope she can get over this very trying time in her life. She has here whole life in front of her and I hope she can move on and take control of her life instead of being a victim of this crime for the rest of her life.

I have no mercy for the teenagers respo sible for this and I hope the police can get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. If I where the judge in this case I would show no mercy, I would try the suspects as adults, I would find the others involved and throw the book at them. If you’re not safe at a school function then you’re not safe anywhere.

I will be keeping a watchful eye on this case in hopes of justice carried out to it’s fullest extent. This episode can happen to anyone so it’s impairative for parents and kids to same page to prevent things like this from happening.

Until next time, e safe, be aware of your suroundings, and never give up.
